Pervert who molested girl, 9, jailed indefinitely

A PERVERT who kidnapped and molested a nine-year-old girl has been jailed indefinitely.
Nigel Farrant, 51, grabbed the youngster and took her into woodland to carry out the assault at an area near Watts Meadow, Rochester, a jury at Maidstone Crown Court heard.
His young victim managed to escape and ran away, and Farrant, of nearby Hoopers Road, was arrested two months later.
Farrant pleaded not guilty to charges of kidnap, inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity and assaulting a girl under 13, but was convicted by a jury last Thursday.
He was told he will have to spend at least five years in prison before being considered for release after being found guilty of the attack.
Following the sentencing, Det Con Melanie Riddell said: “Farrant committed a calm and calculated attack on an extremely young and defenceless girl. Offenders such as Farrant target children as they rely on their young victims being too scared to report them.
“The victim in this case showed an enormous amount of courage and bravery in giving her account to investigators and it was this evidence that enabled us to bring him before the court.
“Nigel Farrant is a dangerous man who preyed on this young girl for his own satisfaction. We are happy that he will no longer be able to seek out or target any other victims.”
