A seventeen year old youth stabbed at Gillingham train station last evening is expected to pull through after emergency surgery.

The incident happened last night on 6.24pm Gillingham to Charing Cross service, when the victim - believed to be from Dartford - was knifed in the chest and abdomen during a fight involving a group of men, which is said to have been over money.

Ambulance crews treated the victim outside the station before taking him to Medway Maritime hospital where he underwent surgery.

The station was closed for almost five hours while forensic officers gathered evidence.

British Tranport Police issued the following statement:

"We believe that up to three black men may have taken a taxi from Gillingham to south east London shortly after the stabbing took place. We would very much like to hear from any taxi driver or company in the Medway area who undertook such a journey last night. This was a very serious assault and we would appeal for anyone with information relating to this crime to contact us immediately."

If you do have any information, please contact British Transport Police on 0800 405040, quoting reference B3/LSA of July 25.
