Cliffe Airport plans on the table again?

The whole airport issue has reared its ugly snout again, with an independant aviation group (no bias there then) led by an ex-Cathay Pacific big wig (no bias there then) John Olsen, who reckons that the high speed rail link would make it feasible.

The Cliffe Airport proposal has come up again.
Mr Olsen obviously took December off and flew to sunnier climes, if he seriously thinks there'd be no overspill from the high speed railway to the normal ones and that the normal trains would cope!
So it looks as though the Cliffe campaigners will have to keep up the pressure although they were never fully convinced in October that they’d heard the last of it.
To quote Mr Olsen on the area: "It's the best piece of undeveloped land anywhere near any major city in Europe.” Exactly, Mr. Olsen – and that’s how we want to keep it. Go look for a brownfield site somewhere, begging for redevelopment.

ReportLet me make this quite clear. As one of the Conservative candidates for Peninsula ward, this is not going to happen. The local MP has said 'No'. The Prime Minister has said 'No'. Local residents have said no, and I'm backing them. This is simply not going to happen despite the self-interested parties who have a vested interest in keeping this scare story alive (shame on them!). The Hoo Peninsula airport story is a pie in the sky scheme that isn't going to fly. Fact.

ReportI feel sure this one will keep coming back to the table, since plans for the third runway at Heathrow were scrapped. I would feel sad if my childhood playground of Cliffe marshes was developed - especially as my cousin Perry Haines successfully ran the RSPC campaign against it last time around - but we all want to travel abroad quickly and cheaply, me included.
