Medway retains Green Flag Awards for five parks!

Rochester's Vines Park and Broomhill Park in Strood are two

of five Medway parks to retain the prestigious Green Flag Award again this year

– the national award for public and community parks and green spaces.

For the second year running all five parks – Capstone Farm

Country Park, Riverside Country Park, Hillyfields, The Vines and Broomhill Park

– have been recognised for being well-maintained, well-managed and with

excellent facilities. Community involvement through the active Friends groups

for each park also helped secure the award.

Medway Council Portfolio Holder for Community Services Cllr

Howard Doe said: "I am delighted that these five parks have retained the Green

Flag Award. A Green Flag Award provides national recognition for the

achievements of those who work hard to ensure that even more of us now have

access to well-managed, high-quality green spaces so important for health and

leisure activities. Well done to everyone involved and I hope that more and

more people discover these hidden gems on our doorstep."

To celebrate the Green Flag Award and Love Parks Week, the

Friends of Hillyfields and Medway Urban Parks & Green Spaces Forum raised

their Green Flag at the park as part of an event which included have-a-go

archery and woodland craft demonstrations.

August activities at The Vines will include their usual

Batty About Bats event, with a walk/talk about the three different species of

bat observed in the park and surrounding Rochester. Bring the family along to

find out more about these fascinating animals and how your garden can make a

difference. There will also be a batty raffle so bring plenty of change.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Batty About Bats takes place on 25th August at 8pm and lasts
