AN ASTONISHING row has erupted between the headmasters of Medway’s two poshest schools, over the latest Government league table results.

David Craggs, head of Gad’s Hill, Higham, has accused Dr Ian Walker, his opposite number at King’s School in Rochester, of “sour grapes” after he complained to Advertising Standards Agency about the findings.

Mr Craggs said mention had been made in the national media as “the country’s top performing independent school based on its GCSE results”.

So proud is of he of the new accolade that Mr Craggs has installed signboards outside the school on the busy A2, and sent letters to parents.

But his actions have riled Dr Walker who accused the school of submitting results for “Mickey Mouse subjects such as drama”.

Dr Walker said: “This has made me very angry. Take subjects like public services, where out of the 18 who took it 17 got A-stars and one A. But what does it mean?”

The head of King’s School, which was founded in 604, described the tables, which do not recognise the international GCSES taken at his school, as “preposterous”.

Mr Craggs said: “This sounds like a bad case of sour grapes, from a school that is far bigger and charges more in fees than we do.

“We did not make up the results. We simply passed on the information as it was published, and yes, I am delighted that we have done so well. It is a credit to the hard work of my staff and pupils.”
