Topes certainly lives up to its reputation! It's a pretty little restaurant with a modern twist on traditional. For a Friday it was full but the atmosphere relaxed and the service was pitched perfectly - not hurried but not left wondering when the next course was coming. Beginning with a complimentary cute little cup of pumpkin soup, with flavoured toasts and bread, I moved on to the most delicious smoked duck with wild mushroom on toast, topped with a poached duck egg hollandaise - heavenly. Then it was roast lamb rump, aubergine caviar, onion puree, confit peppers, wilted spinach and spiced aiolli - not a scrap of it left. Dessert was baked cheesecake with Mockbeggar Farm blackberries and cream and frankly, they did have to stop me licking the plate clean at that point. Yummy doesn't cover it. The waitress kept my wine glass topped up and the Calypso coffee to finish was perfect. Go ahead, make your day and treat yourself!

Lovely location, lovely food, I agree, there's nothing to complain about here! I've been here several times - it's one of my favorites in town. I love the beer battered seabass. The puddings are wonderful; of particular recomendation would have to be the dark chocolate torte.
For those with a taste for innovative, delicious modern European cuisine, Topes restaurant in Rochester high street is a must. Housed in a beautiful building that dates back hundreds of years, the food and service on offer here is of an absolutely outstanding quality.
