Walk with us for the Children of Zimbabwe on 10th July 2010
-
Just Children in Harare
I have a dream. Please make it happen!
As a trustee of Just Children Foundation we are asking as many people as possible to walk to Rochester Cathedral - from anywhere in the vicinity. We will suggest routes and provide detailed walking notes. The longest walks will be from Tunbridge Wells (30 miles) and Orpington (21 miles), the shortest from Medway Bridges (1.5 miles), and other routes will start from many points in between. Something for everyone! Regardless of distance, we are asking people to raise sponsorship. Last time an amazing £50,000 was collected, which allowed us to care for hundreds of children in Zimbabwe for almost a year. Please help us do it again. You will have a very enjoyable, memorable day and fall asleep that night knowing that you have not only made my dream a reality but, much more importantly, you will have given hope to the children of Zimbabwe.
The day will culminate in a service in support of the children of Zimbabwe. The worship will be led by the same wonderful Shona choir as in 2008 when 500 people crammed into the building. Bishop Michael Gear, honorary patron of Just Children Foundation, will preside and Rev Chris Dobson, former Rochester diocesan representative in Harare will preach. You will also hear more about the exciting work Just Children Foundation is doing in Zimbabwe. Both walkers and non-walkers are very welcome to attend the service.

ReportPeople are asking what the money will be spent on. First and foremost it will be school fees and uniforms. These together cost about $8000 a term. Fees for each child vary between $40 and $50 a term. Remember these are State schools and even for those you have to pay. A primary school girl's dress is $17 whereas the full uniform for a boy at secondary school is in excess of $50. These relativly small amounts of money can make a huge difference, enabling a child to attend school and in the future, therefore, get a job.
