Mayor Cllr David Royle will hand over to a new mayor in May in a bigger ceremony to take place in Rochester Cathedral, if plans by leader of the Council, Cllr Rodney Chambers, come to fruition.

Currently, the mayor is selected at the AGM with a few guests and councillors attending a service at the Cathedral a few weeks later. Cllr Chambers, however, feels that the Cathedral service should be the main event, with all the customary speeches made there and followed by a sit down dinner at the Corn Exchange.

But is this a good time to make this event bigger, which inevitably will cost more, especially if a sit down dinner for invited guests is included. What do you think? Would you bother to attend this event if you were invited or if it was open to the public?
