Fancy owning a pot hole? There's plenty to go around ...

Here's a novel idea that maybe Medway Council should consider - sponsored pot holes!

Since the cold/bitter/hateful - delete as appropriate - weather snap, the roads have literally Gone to Pot! (Ok for Robbie Williams, maybe, not so for the rest of us!) But in the German town of Niederzimmen, near Leipzig, locals can 'buy' a pot hole for 50 euros, in return for the authorities immediate repair, complete with dedication (a bit like on Southwold Pier's railings or EuroDisney's paving slabs) to you and/or yours!

Naturally, television and newspapers have snapped up what they see as cheap advertising spaces - and with Medway already having their roundabouts available for sponsorship, why not extend the scheme? It's working in Niederzimmen!

I can see it now: 'Jaye woz 'ere, ok?' halfway down City Way! What do you think, would you like to see a "Mr and Mrs Dickens, celebrating their 174th anniversary, 2nd April 2010" in the middle of Blue Boar Lane, or do you have a special memory or anniversary of your own you'd like inscribed into your town's tarmac for eternity? (Or at least until the next big freeze!) And how much would you be willing to pay for the privilege?
