Councillors United Against 'Boris Island' Estuary Airport Plans

A cross party delegation from Medway Council, backed by Kent County Council and the RSPB, this week presented their own dossier against the building of an airport in the Thames Estuary to the office of London Mayor Boris Johnson.

Stop the Estuary Airport - A Pie in the Sky Idea
The delegation were hopeful that Doug Oakervee, the engineer overseeing the project, would see a copy before his address to the London Assembly on March 11th - but he has since pulled out of feasibility discussions with the Environment Committee, who are not looking to reschedule, leaving a gaping hole in the Mayor's vision.
Engineers and the major airlines have also rejected the plans due to the location, terming it a 'dead end' that would take travellers in the South East or beyond far longer to get to than Heathrow, which serves the West too.
A 'Pie in the Sky' idea has been adopted the groups opposed to the scheme, with the above poster designed to bring maximum exposure to the cause. I'm getting a little wound up now - Boris was back on the telly last night still going on about this being the only option! Dave and Nick need to have a word!

ReportTransport Secretary Philip Hammond has advised the Medway MPs that Boris Island is definitely OFF - the government's plans are focused on improving existing airpports, not building new ones. Yay!

ReportWell, thankfully, it seems that Boris has now dropped the idea. Quite right too, it appears people power can work after all.
