Players at the Rochester BVFC presentation evening last night were surprised but thrilled to discover that the special guest presenting their awards was none other than new Gillingham manager, Andy Hessenthaler.

Having been asked to do the honours before changes were made at Gillingham, it would have been understandable if Andy had subsequently had to cancel. However, he made the time to still come along and spend a couple of hours with the club and every player received their trophy from him personally.

One little lad, celebrating his birthday, also had Andy help him blow out the candles on his birthday cake – that’ll be something to share with his class after half term!

Rochester BVFC were formerly known as Bredhurst Village FC and have been a very successful club since their formation in 1997. Holders of the F.A. Standard Charter Mark, they won the prestigious Charter Club of the Year in 1995.

With many of the original players now adults and moved on, a whole new generation of parents have taken on roles left vacant, with Chairman Andy Austen and his new committee ensuring that the fine tradition of the club continues.

I remember back in the day when I was there collecting my award and Andy H was presenting them then! Hope he brings back the magic!
