Medway Council Propose Ban on Takeaways Near Schools

What do Rochester People think about the proposed ban of takeaway shops near schools? Can the council really enforce where kids shop and eat or is that their parent's job?

Is it the council's job or the parents job to make sure children eat a healthy diet?
Personally, I think the responsiblity lies completely with the parents. Reception and Year 6 primary children in Medway have the highest obesity levels in Kent - but as far as I'm aware, children of that age aren't allowed out at lunchtime. So who or what is responsible for their size? More of the kids in schools in Maidstone Road shop for junk food at the Kent Mart convenience store, rather than the Fish Bar next door, so the ban would be ineffecutual, kids will just live on sweets instead, if they refuse the healthy options.
Can the council really enforce the ban - or should parents educate their children into eating more healthily?

It won't make the slightest bit of difference!

ReportI'm pretty sure that my son needed my permission to leave secondary school at lunchtime, up until 6th form! And definitely not allowed out from junior school!
