Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Because we’re all prepared, aren’t we? No? *shocked face* Come on, they’ve been telling us for a week now!

I’ve got my waterproofs and walking boots in a bag in the boot of the car, plus an extra fleece. And if my teenager hadn’t broken my scraper being a bit forceful with it t’other night, I’d have that too! (What are they like?) Luckily, I’ve a spare freezer scraper, which will have to do, since I forgot to get a new one during a shop run this morning! No, not panic buying, just the few essentials I’d actually run out of! I’m very much a ‘buy it when I need it’ shopper.

A few other tips: Keep some snack food in the car and a bottle of drink; also a shovel, just in case. And, I found out only yesterday, if you do get stuck in snow, make sure you clear it away from your exhaust pipe! Common sense, I know, but it never occurred to me.  Apparently, it’s best to turn off the engine, starting it periodically.

We’ve had our first smattering here but now the sky is a beautiful blue and the sun is shining across Rochester and Medway - so this would be the time to make preparations! Medway Council’s website has a severe weather guide, advising where salt boxes are located and giving links to the BBC 5 day forecast and any severe weather warnings. You’ll also find advice on snow clearance and links to the travel firms to keep an eye on any disruptions. Together with a schools closure list, they’ve pretty much got it covered.

As ever, if/when we do get the big fall we’re been threatened with, do let us all know if your school closes or any dodgy roads to avoid. Better still, let us know where the best hills for sledging are! You know, proper snow sledging, not the sort likely going on in Australia at the moment! (For the non-cricket fans, it’s Ashes time down under!) And do let us have any snowy pictures from where you are! (When it comes!)
