There seem to be less public displays now, for varying reasons (eg. insurance, health & safety) so will you have your own private display or head over to an organised event?

Medway Council’s huge display at the Great Lines Heritage Park is free – possibly for the last time, so get your money’s worth when the event opens at 5pm on Saturday 6th November. There are free workshops in the craft tent for children under 14 (who must be accompanied by an adult) between 5pm – 7pm, and the kmfm roadshow will also be on hand until the start of the display at 7.30pm. A Guy competition will be held between 5pm – 6pm and the bonfire lit at 7pm.  Words of warning: There are no toilets on site and no on-site parking (but plenty of car parks at the Chatham end of the park, where the display is situated, plus car parks in Gillingham) and these roads will be closed to traffic between pm and 9.30pm: Marlborough Road, between Brompton Road and York Avenue; Lock Street and Paget Streets, between Marlborough Road and Britton Street; Stafford Street between Marlborough Road and Saxton Street and Longhill Avenue from the junction with Windmill Road for its entire length.

Over in Cuxton on the same night, the parish council have a display at the Recreation Ground. Gates open at 5.30pm, with the display due at 7.15pm. For more information, see www.cuxtonpc.kentparishes.gov.uk or email clerk@cuxtonpc.kentparishes.gov.uk

According to my sources! Wingets FC have a display at Reed Court Road in Strood, also on the 6th November. This is apparently also known as the Blaw Knox display, and there’s usually a funfair too. (It’s there at Halloween also, and free to kids in costume.)

Finally, a little further across Medway, the Bredhurst Bell has arranged their display for  ... you’ve guessed it – Saturday 6th November, and have pre-empted any weather issues by setting aside the 13th just in case. If they have accompanying music like last year, it’ll be quite an event! They have a Best Guy competition at 6.30pm, the bonfire will be lit at 7pm, with the display itself from 7.30pm. Tickets are £4 for adults and £2 for children, with proceeds going to the Kent Air Ambulance and Rainham Fire Station (FSABF).

Do you know of any other displays in rural Rochester? If so, please let us know, especially if you’re part of a community club or charitable society, as we’d love to help you promote it.

Wherever you go, whatever you do, be safe - remember to follow the fireworks code!
