Scopos [the watcher]

October 14th  – November 24th

Artists originating from or currently working in Kent are invited to submit work for a group exhibition “Scopos [the watcher]”.

Submissions are sought from artists that investigate aspects of observation in contemporary art and explore the relationship between artist, artwork and audience. The act of looking is often socially regulated, but how are these rules changing with developments in the politics of equality and with modern technologies? For example, the work may broach themes including, but not restricted to, identity, narcissism, voyeurism and gender politics.

All media will be considered, but please specify any technical installation and display requirements in your application and the gallery will endeavour to accommodate these requirements. Selected artworks should be available from early October for exhibition at the Sevenoaks Kaleidoscope Gallery.

Please email images (up to 1Mb) along with a statement. Submissions and enquiries should be directed to kaleidoscope@kent.gov.uk

The deadline for receipt of submission is 10 am Monday September 13th.

The curatorial team will endeavour to select work that is not only strong in itself, but that will develop a conceptual and/or aesthetic relationship, in order to produce a coherent show. Successful artists will be notified within a week of the deadline to make arrangements for delivery of the work.

The Kaleidoscope Gallery is a contemporary space run by Kent County Council to show new work from established and emerging Kent artists.

Scopos [the watcher] is the third in a series of exhibitions. Images from previous shows Kalos [beauty] and Eidos [form] can be found here – www.kent.gov.uk/arts
