Under the watchful eyes and lyrical hands of Director of Music, Scott Farrell, our cathedral’s respected choirs have a full schedule of concerts to be enjoyed this year.

Joined by prize winning Assistant Music Director, Samuel Rathbone, in October, Scott oversees all the music in the cathedral as well as being responsible for a significant outreach programme. Scott is also in demand as a soloist and has featured on CDs, in particular, four critically acclaimed ones made with the Cathedral Church of St. Nicholas, in Newcastle upon Tyne. He has also appeared on Radio 3 and performed with the Northern Sinfonia under Sir Roger Norrington and Simon Halsey, Fine Arts Brass, Julian Lloyd Webber, legendary jazz saxophonist Peter King and the Mediaeval Baebes.

Samuel was a prize winning postgraduate student at the Royal Academy of Music and was awarded the Organ Scholarship at Royal Holloway, University of London, in 2002, with whom he toured widely and recorded as part of the celebrated Chapel Choir. Samuel holds the position of Assistant Organist at Rochester Cathedral, where his duties are divided between accompanying the choir of boys and men and directing the girl choristers. A prize winner in interpretation and performance at the Fellowship of the Royal College of Organists examination, Samuel is in increasing demand as a concert organist and recitalist. He has performed at Westminster Cathedral, York Minster and St. John’s, Smith Square, as well as participating in several festivals in the UK and abroad.
