Far far less than would be by any expansion of Heathrow/Gatwick/Stansted. Not many people live in the sea, and the Hoo peninsula is, obviously, more sparsely populated than outer London.

Heathrow has consistently been ruled out - although BA own a lot of the land nearby apparently and lease it back to residents?! Is there a sunken warship with 1400 tons worth of explosive nearby Birmingham? and a gas depot? and is it likely to be 12 more likely than anywhere else for birdstrike? Isn't Birmingham the better option than any other? Plans for an airport here have been mooted since the 60s and every single one of them has been thrown out due to all the same reasons that are being put forward now.
It seems BA won't go there unless Heathrow closes - which would then bring social and economic upheaval in West London as well as Kent - how likely would a government be to do that? http://tinyurl.com/6n2s2vo and I heard recently that 9/10 airlines are opposed to Boris Island!
Jaye; on the face of it unlikely but remember this government have a habit of creating a slippery slope. This proposal was originally an island in the middle of the Thames Estuary. It slowly migrated on shore and now there are detailed proposals at Grain.
The Cliffe proposal; a £14bn non-hub solution was also trailed in the Sunday papers. This would mean a smaller version without hub status taking the strain of perhaps Gatwick which would become a second hub.
We know a crossing is to be built and the infrastructure is in place; HS1, M2.
The point is the government have ruled out Gatwick expansion, Stansted expansion and Heathrow. The only conversation at the moment is Thames Estuary and this is either a serious proposal by the government for consultation or we are being played for votes by the Tory Mayoral candidate for votes in West London.
Both are utterly inappropriate.
Looks like the fair folk of Essex aren't keen on staring out at an airport either ... http://tinyurl.com/7xehvkb
What I'd like to know is: if a hub airport means the passengers come in, then switch planes and fly straight out again, without leaving the airport, how does that benefit our tourism and local shops? What am I missing? Obviously, Sock Shop etc (do they still exist?) will be inside the airport but how do the locals benefit?
People will be uprooted, displaced and their lives will be blighted!! This will happen where ever the airport is built! or an airport is expanded. Government know this, its an unfortunate result of "progress"
If you are to argue against an airport in or any where near the Thames Estuary, do it from the moral high ground of a really worthwhile cause and with the backing or millions of others.
The Thames Estuary lies on one of the most important bird migratory routes in the Northern hemisphere, it is recognised internationally by the EU for its importance, having five Special Protection Areas, Its recognised Globally under the Ramsar convention for the same reason.
We are as a nation trying to reduce carbon emissions to check global warming !!
The question is do we really need airport expansion? are we making best use of what we have already?
This Government want to be the Greenest Government Ever!!
Let Mr Cameron know that WE WANT THAT TOO.

If you haven't downloaded the against the airport poster yet, here's it is: http://tinyurl.com/7s7m6sg
Bit rich of Scally, supporting the airport - he lives in Dubai and would take the Gills out of Medway given half a chance! Why would anyone take any notice of what he thinks? http://tinyurl.com/753v9vk
The latest official line - we're still waiting http://tinyurl.com/7mxq7dv Branson's not for it either and I don't see how they can justify the costs
And now - Heathrow's 3rd runway is 'back on the table'! http://tinyurl.com/787qrp6
So - and pretty obviously - nothing is ruled out, every option is being looked at - including ex-RAF Northolt taking the strain for business flights - only 13 miles from Heathrow, if you read all the comments.
