Two of Rochester's community spaces will play a part in a conservation and sporting legacy themed celebration, Save a Space for Me, to mark next year's Queens' Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics.

Sherwood Cricket Club, at Cloudesley Close, Rochester and Cuxton Sport and Recreation Ground, Bush Road, Cuxton, were both nominated and go forward along with hundreds of other public spaces for protection under the Fields in Trust programme. With recent figures showing that there is less participation in sport by young people and women than ever before, the drive is on to reverse this trend. So far, Fields in Trust have ensured that 15,000 acres of recreational spaces will be forever present in their communities.

Save a Space for Me is the Queen Elizabeth Elizabeth II Fields Challenge, headed by its Patron, The Duke of Cambridge and operated by Fields in Trust. It's a fantastic programme to protect 2012 outdoor recreational spaces in communities all across the country as a permanent living legacy of the above mentioned landmark occasions.

Hi Kathryn, lovely to hear from you. My fellow community publisher at Whitstable People, Susan, told me about it :-) http://tinyurl.com/7k6ze25

    Hi Jaye
Delighted that you've mentioned this and let your fellow Rochester-ites know about it! I was just wondering how you heard about it? I work on the communications for the Challenge, you see!
    Thanks,
    Kathryn
