One of the highlights of the summer in Medway, the Castle Proms will provide the grand finale to this year's Castle Concerts, on Saturday, 16 July.
-
Under Siege will again bring the Rochester Castle Concerts season to an end.
The Royal Philharmonic Proms Orchestra will return to perform a selection of classical favourites, culminating in a spectacular fireworks display.
Highlights of this year's programme will include Tchaikovsky's thundering 1812 Overture, the ever-popular Nessun Dorma, and excerpts from Bizet's passionate opera Carmen.
The evening will climax with a stunning finale of all the traditional Last Night of the Proms flag-waving favourites for the audience to join in with, including the Sailor's Hornpipe, Rule Britannia, Jerusalem and Land of Hope and Glory.
The orchestra will also be joined on stage by the acclaimed voices of the 80-strong Hertfordshire Chorus. Guest soloist this year are soprano Jo Appleby who has toured worldwide with opera band Amici Forever, and tenor Jonathon Ansell, who shot to fame with pop opera group G4 on The X Factor - and is known as 'The Justin Timberlake of Pop Opera'!
So pack up a picnic and take your friends and family along for an unforgettable experience in the unique setting of Rochester castle.
Tickets cost £29.50 and are available in person at The Central Theatre box office, The Brook Theatre box office and Medway Visitor Information Centre, by phone on 338338 or online at www.castleconcerts.co.uk
This year's Castle Concerts line up also includes Squeeze on 13 July, Peter Andre on 14 July and N-Dubz on 15 July, with the Under Siege concert featuring local young singers and musicians on Sunday 17th.

I'm hoping to get along this year and sample the atmosphere! At the Proms, that is, not the Gills, sorry Kenny - leaving that to OH and kids!

ReportBut do you ever get past the "greatest hits"? There's plenty more music to hear than just the very narrow range that gets trotted out again and again at concerts like this. It's the equivalent of only eating the orange cremes: there's more chocolates in the box. Why not give something else a go? And if it's the communal aspect that you enjoy, being in a crowd, waving and cheering: well, the Gills could do with your support!

ReportBut I love the proms! I don't go to the opera and I've never managed to get tickets for the main one, this is my only chance to join in rather than watch it on TV!

ReportI can't believe events like this are still being put on: Nessun flippin' Dorma, 1812, flags, fireworks. It's not going to stretch anyone's musical horizons. is it! Are we the most culturally shallow people in the world or do other countries have something similar? Haven't people had enough of these nights of dumbed-down classics?
