THREE people from Medway have been jailed for attempting to smuggle drugs into Rochester Prison.

Danny Martin, 27, his half-brother Adam Cullen, 20, and girlfriend Lisa Sharp, 23, were all sentenced to jail after admitting conspiracy to supply drugs.

Convicted robber Martin was imprisoned at HMP Rochester in Cookham Hill when he was overheard asking Sharp and Cullen to bring cannabis resin and herbal cannabis into the jail.

The trio plotted to give the substances to an outside worker, to sneak them into the prison for Martin. But the plan was foiled when police officers waited for Sharp and Cullen to hand over the drugs.

Cullen tried to throw away the cannabis, but officers found them.

The trio pleaded guilty and were jailed on 28 January. Martin was sentenced to 16 months imprisonment, Cullen to ten months and Sharp was jailed for four months.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Steven Goldsmith said: "We take offences like these incredibly seriously and anybody attempting to smuggle drugs into prison should expect to be stopped, prosecuted and jailed."
