Keeping in touch locally the Twitter Way!

There's a whole host of social networks out there now, but for ease of use and the sharing of information quickly and succinctly, it's hard to beat micro-blogging site,Twitter.

The Twitter timelines can keep you up to date on practically everything!
Following @kent_police during the riots last year was an excellent way of keeping calm and carrying on, as they ensured up to date news, buoyed up by many other locals literally sticking their heads out of windows to report, "yep, nothing's happening here" (big up to on-the-spot @mannyer there) and the live tweets from Chatham MP @tracey_crouch who was actually patrolling in Chatham High Street!
So I thought it a good idea to let you have a list of interesting folk to read or follow, as, unlike some other sites, the time line for Twitter users is open to view without logging in - unless the user has locked it, but I've come across very few of those (Twitter has far fewer options to overload it with personal information).
From a practical persepective, along with Kent Police, keep tabs on @medway_council for the latest highways and activities news, @kentfirerescue (self explanatory) and @nhsmedway would also be good - not forgetting us of course, @Rochesterpeople. For wider Kent news, try @thisiskent
If politics is your thing, all parties are represented, as along with Tracey above, our MP @MarkReckless, is a frequent user. The Green Party's Steven Keevil is also a walking film guide and Labour's @VinceMaple will keep you up to date on everything to do with the Love Music Hate Racism Festival news. There are lots, lots more - you'll see them all joshing each other on there ;)
If the creative types are more to your taste, they're also around - again, the interaction between everyone is fantastic, so once you find one, you'll soon spot all the others. A few to start you off: @ben_cameron - @nucleusarts - @medwayeyes - @emmadewhurst7 and @thenitinsawhney
Finally, just a teensy tiny number of our friendly local folk @janpete04 - @facilitatorkent - @LostMarilyn - @juliac2 our Local Legend @pipdrums plus the wonderul @madkentdragon who is an absolute star when it comes to sharing everything you need to know! And if what you want to know is anything to do with dancing, sport, music or chocolate - well, you can always follow me @Scattyjan :)
Happy Twittering!
