The daily readings and various exhibitions to celebrate Charles Dickens bicentenary have been well attended and the readers today were rewarded with almost a full room for 'The Pickwick Papers'. The autographed letters are fascinating and the textured art from UCA students, giving their take on some of the classic books, is an added bonus to an already excellent exhibition.
The Fellowship also set a record for dishing out cream teas yesterday, according the member David Hawes - they served approximately 40 in the space of just 12 minutes! Now that's service!
The exhibition continues up to and including Saturday, so do check it out if you can. You'll find the remaining events here.

Chris, please let us know more about the DCPS and how local people can get more involved with it. I'm sure there will be many interested, specially with the airport threat. :)

ReportIt is also the 40th Birthday of the Dickens Country Protection Society (DCPS) formed in 1972 to protect the local area that Dickens loved - the old Strood Rural District Council area. Fighting inappropriate development in the area and being involved in Local Plans and large scale planning. The first was an oil refinery proposed on Cliffe Marshes,to airport proposals - we were the first organisation to arrange a Public Meeting in Cliffe during the previous consultation exercise.
