Composer call out for Maidstone Olympic Torch Event

Kent Arts Development in Maidstone are seeking an exciting musician/composer to create a 20 minute work as part of the Cultural Olympiad 2012.

The work will be premiered at Leeds Castle Olympic Torch event on the 19th July 2012, to celebrate Maidstone being only one of two locations in Kent hosting the torch relay.

The given theme for the composition is 'Maidstone' and while the Olympic Games themselves need not directly influence the writing, the Olympic priorities should.  It will be advantageous if the musical genres within the piece are as eclectic as possible, in order to appeal to a wide range of people.

Interested applicants should submit a CV, a recent piece of work both on CD/MP3 and scored and a short description of the kind of work they would like to produce for this project. Please bear in mind that this work should be accessible for a large number of performers.

The fee for this piece is £5000. Shortlisting and interviewing will take place in December 2011 and a final decision on the successful applicant will be made in January 2012.
